Sinus Lifts

Quite often at Oatlands Referral Centre we carry out sinus lifts for dentists in our network.

This type of graft takes place in the upper jaw, above the back of the teeth and increases the available height of the bone. It is a very delicate procedure and our practitioners have the detailed training and experience to perform the procedure to deliver superb results.

Why would a sinus lift be carried out?

If an implant is needed in this part of the mouth but the patient’s remaining bone is too thin, we may recommend a sinus lift. This opens up space for additional bone to be added to support the implant.

How does the procedure work?

The procedure process can vary but usually our surgeon will make a small incision to expose the bone. A small circle is the cut into it and lifted up into the sinus cavity so that the space below can be filled with graft bone.

We then close the incision and place stitches. It usually takes 12 months for the area to heal enough for an implant to be placed but in some cases we can place the implant at the same time.

We will advise you of what we think is the best course of action for your patient.
