Periodontal Treatment

In some cases we find that scaling and root planing is not enough to completely eradicate serious levels of periodontitis where there has been severe bone loss with defects and thick and fibrous gum tissue has developed.

As well as removing heavy build-up of tartar, we can reshape the gum to get rid of any pocketing with periodontal surgery. We will only suggest surgical treatment after attempting non-surgical
treatment and even then will only treat the areas that would benefit from such treatment.

If a patient’s gums display deep pocketing, the gum can be separated from the tooth surgically in order to improve access to remove subgingival tartar. Irregular bone cavities and root surfaces can also be smoothened at the same time. Then the gums can be repositioned and secure with small stitches, which are then covered with a protective dressing. We also schedule follow-up appointments to monitor the progress of the patient’s gums and their recovery.
