Non-surgical Periodontal Treatment

If gum disease becomes advanced, plaque can reach below the gum line creating inflammation and detaching the gum from the teeth and thus creating pockets where more plaque can gather.

In these cases we need to take action as quickly as possible and eradicate any debris and bacteria before it leads to damage to the bones and ligaments in the jaw. We treat this by scaling the teeth and root planing with the use of hand-held manual instruments.

This can be uncomfortable and is a much deeper clean than the cleaning done by a hygienist so we can use local anaesthetic to make patients feel as comfortable as possible and explain carefully what will take place.
