The Wand

At Oatlands Referral Centre we aim to make every patient feel comfortable and reassured, and part of this is addressing phobias of needles, a very common fear. To help carry out treatments without causing patients distress we use ‘the wand’, an innovative device that looks more like a pen than a syringe and has a small, discrete needle.

This is particularly useful for patients who start to experience anxiety simply at the sight of a needle and allows them to undergo crucial treatment without fear.

Does it work as well as conventional syringes?

Whilst it doesn’t look like a conventional syringe, cutting-edge technology allows The Wand to deliver the right amount of anaesthetic the patient needs at the correct rate. The ergonomic design means that it’s also more comfortable for the dentist to use. No matter where in the mouth anaesthetic is needed, The Wand allows us to deliver it accurately and comfortably. We have found that when our practitioners look more confident using equipment, it also helps to put patients at ease.

A lot of dentists are switching to The Wand as their preferred method of administering anaesthetic as it offers ease of use and doesn’t release the anaesthetic too quickly, which is the most common cause of pain during injections. The pen-like handpiece is light and easy to manoeuvre and we can easily control the flow rate. This amazing piece of technology is proving to help make even the most anxious patients feel at ease and is becoming increasingly popular among dentists.
