Piezo Machine

We often make use of a dental ‘Piezo’ machine when carrying out particular treatments and procedures.

What is a Piezo machine?

The Piezo machine, short for piezotome, is an ultrasonic generator that assists in several procedures including work prior to implants being placed, sinus lift procedures and wisdom teeth extractions. This clever piece of equipment only cuts through bone so is an alternative to the standard dental drill which cuts through tissue.

Not only does it enable us to make very precise, detailed cuts, it minimises surgery risks and allows us to make cleaner cuts. It is particularly useful when placing implants as the patient’s bones are very delicate and ideal for nervous patients as it has a gentle pulsing sounds instead of the dental drill’s loud and unpleasant noise.

Surgery with a Piezo machine

Thanks to its sophisticated techniques, the Piezo machine is a great machine to use when we are conducting procedures that involve removing bone tissue. The tip of the machine vibrates in a way that is both more powerful and more controlled than a regular drill, making it safer and less damaging. It causes very little bleeding and does not affect the soft tissues such as the sinus membranes so the whole process, including the healing period, is a lot quicker.

How does the machine do this?

The machine using ultrasonic vibrations directed in a precise way so our practitioners have to undergo extensive training to be able to handle it. It is an invaluable asset and our patients who have been treated with it always give back very positive feedback.

If you would like to know more about how the Piezo works and how we utilise it, do give us a call. We are always on hand to answer any queries.
