Hygienist

No matter how white or straight teeth may look, it is integral to maintain good oral hygiene to prevent problems such as gum disease so it is advisable that people visit a dental hygienist regularly.

As well as looking unsightly and being painful, gum disease and inflammation can lead to other health problems such as heart disease. By seeking advice from a dental hygienist patients can reduce their risk of tooth loss, infections, pain and detect any issues before they escalate. Our hygienist can help to detect and manage gum inflammation before there is a full blown attach of gum disease or more severe problems.

Our hygienist can also remove tough stains such as those from wine, tea, coffee and tobacco. Using our Air-Flow procedure, our hygienist gently removes and polishes teeth carefully and precisely. It gets fantastic results and can even clean between teeth and around braces.

If the hygienist thinks that intensive treatment is required, they will liaise with you to arrange a bespoke plan of treatment for the patient. Our dental hygienists, Helen, Laura and Anna, are all professional, empathetic and caring and make patients feel completely at ease. They deliver an exemplary standard of treatment and have looked after patients, both those of Oatlands Referral centre and referred from other practices, for years.

Stubborn stain removal

We frequently use airflow technology to remove stubborn stains from patients’ teeth using the EMS Airflow Polisher (Optident).

What does air polishing do?

Air polishing has been around since the 1970s and is a great favourite with many dentists, including us, as it’s a gentle yet effective way of removing stains and gently polishing the teeth.

How does air polishing work?

Air polishing can be used on the front and back teeth and makes use of a fine jet of compressed air mixed with water and fine particles of powder. These remove all stains from the teeth including the more stubborn ones caused by things such as red wine, tea, coffee and tobacco.

Why do dentists use Air Polishing?

Air polishing is far more effective that a simple polish and is safe to use on natural teeth, implants and braces. It is extremely gentle, causes very little discomfort, is suitable for people with sensitive teeth and doesn’t generate any heat or pressure.

If you would like to know more about our Air Flow Polisher and the benefits it can have for you patients, call us and we will be happy to talk to you and explain all the fine details.
